The Current Product Configuration Is Unlicensed Hp Printer

We took over a part of our organization's IT fairly recently, and where our existing infrastructure made use of Xerox printers that are primarily supported by Xerox, this group has HP printers that are primarily supported by their old IT... and now by us. We're trying to get up to speed on the HP Access Control Configuration Utility, but keep running into "But why???" moments, and this one in particular has me stumped:
I have a printer that I can add to the device list just fine (it got moved to a new IP range, so had to be removed and re-added). It notes that the agent is not installed on the printer. Per the instructions that we were handed by $OldIT, we need to install that agent (I don't know what the agent does, I'm just blindly following a step sheet here), so I try to install the agent. HPAC utility IMMEDIATELY says "installing agent done, rebooting device" - but I can confirm that it does not reboot the device, nor does the agent ever successfully report as installed.
Anybody out there familiar with this product? My guess is that the agent has been installed but that a firewall rule or similar is blocking this information from pulling across.

Honestly the best thing with this is check if the client is paying for an HP support contract and if they are, engage HP to assist. Support is all in with contract and really don't want to get tied up in this if you don't have to. We have several clients running AC and it is a great product, but the client would actually be better off going with Capella Print Evolve, which is HP licensed as AC, the advantage is that Print Evolve offers support for Xerox products as well.

Access control is wonderful if clients wants authentication as it allows prox cards and can piggyback off existing prox cards used for entry systems. Also allows customized screen layouts for users.

If you want to do it yourself, download the administrator manual from HP and dig in.
